From County Executive
Steve Levy's State of the County address page 2 - 2006: "This is why we must continue to practice smarter government;
we must promote reforms and innovations; we must continue our policy of "doing more with less." We must show that
together - we have the will to take on special interests that benefit from the status quo; and, most importantly, we must
have the courage to say "No" when "No" is the prudent answer." Why then is the county spending $800,000
of taxpayers money to re-open the trap & skeet, for a return from the vendor of under $30,000 per year? Buddy R -

Community Suggestions and Ideas: Skeet
range must be stopped. No one in my neighborhood knew about this range re-opening.

Why
re-open the gun range knowing full well that it will negatively impact the quality of daily living for thousands of local
residents, put the same residents at a high health risk due to repetitive gun discharge noise and blowing lead dust, and devalue
each and every home!

Focus crew, Great
job getting the facts out for all to read and act upon!!!
My simple question is ...why introduce a dangerously unhealthy
gun range within a pristine family oriented county park filled with children?! Beautiful Southaven Park!
Thanks for the opportunity to sound off! Matt - Yaphank

After reading the following in the South Shore Press Newspaper
how and why would any elected decision maker vote to re-open the dangerously unhealthy gun range?
And why are county
workers now working within the gun range without approval the Pine Barrens Commission?

Bob
Seyfarth, Principal Public Health Sanitarian in the Office of Pollution Control at the County Department of Health had concerns.
Seyfarth said "the biggest concern for the County Department of Health was that the range operates near an active park and
lead can be inhaled and transferred to hands through normal activities." Quoted in the South Shore Press Newspaper - January
4th, 2006.
Also quoted in the South Shore Press Newspaper on January 4th, 2006, committee member of the Pine Barrens
Commission Ray Corwin, "conceded that the County must submit a written description of its plans for the trap and skeet and
the Commission would be charged with reviewing the proposal and ensuring the plan complies with the Central Pines Barrens
Act."
Also quoted in the South Shore Press Newspaper on January 4th, 2006, South Yaphank Civic Association President

Read the following
and see if anything makes sense to you! Letter sent to the Central Pine Barrens Commission from Nicholas Gibbons, Senior Environmental
Analyst for SC parks, dated January 18, 2005: "Suffolk County Parks requests that the hearings scheduled for the Tuesday,
January 19, 2005, Commission meeting be indefinitely postponed. Parks is withdrawing our application at this time while several
outstanding issues are addressed. When our proposal is finally completed, we will return to the commission pursuant to state
law. " ***Interesting that a RFP was sent out, accepted a vendor, went before the legislature and to date
have yet to appear before the Central Pine Barrens Commission as stated in the letter pursuant to state law!

Quote from Assemblywoman
Eddington: "I am adamantly opposed to this bill (A6608). I was not consulted during the drafting of this legislation
and I will not support this bill should it come before me for a vote." I have contacted County Executive Steve Levy to
make him aware of my opposition to not only this legislation, but also to the re-opening of the Suffolk trap & Skeet Range."

Environmental Analyst Teri Kopp Secretary to the Commissioner Mary Morabito Principal Auditor COMMISSIONER’S REPORT
Deputy Commissioner Bellone reported on Trap and Skeet – the Department is currently working on the RFP for a concessionaire.
The Town of Brookhaven did not grant an exemption to the County from their noise ordinance affecting this facility. However,
the project is still moving forward using limited funding to abate noise. Trustee Miller asked if the Department considered
an alternate site like Shinnecock, where “people could shoot at their heart’s content without neighbors being
around.” Deputy Commissioner Bellone said alternates were not considered yet. Trustee Miller asked “You are still
going to fight it? (The County Attorney agrees that Town of Brookhaven has jurisdiction.) Deputy Commissioner said the RFP
is still moving forward. Trustee Miller could not believe there would be anyone who would become the concessionaire (there)
and buy into a lawsuit – he felt this was just a waste of time.
